Aragorn Quotes

The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring

The same blood flows in my veins. The same weakness.

I swore to protect you.

You cannot wield it. None of us can. The One Ring answers to Sauron alone. It has no other master.

They were once men. Great kings of men. Then Sauron the deceiver gave to them nine rings of power. Blinded by their greed, they took them without question, one by one falling into darkness. Now they are slaves to his will. They are the Nazgul, Ringwraiths, neither living nor dead. At all times they feel the presence of the Ring, drawn to the power of the One. They will never stop hunting you.

I do not know what strength is in my blood, but I swear to you I will not let the White City fall, nor our people fail.

Indeed. I can avoid being seen if I wish, but to disappear entirely, that is a rare gift.

You said you'd bind yourself to me, forsaking the immortal life of your people.

Gentlemen, we do not stop 'til nightfall.

Frodo's fate is no longer in our hands.

Are you frightened?

Not nearly frightened enough. I know what hunts you.

He is passing into the Shadow World. He'll soon become a wraith like them.

A little more caution from you; that is no trinket you carry.

Be at peace, Son of Gondor.

He's trying to bring down the mountain! Gandalf, we must turn back!

'Tis the Lay of LĂșthien. The Elf-maiden who gave her love to Beren, a mortal.

They will look for his coming from the White Tower. But he will not return.

Boromir! Give the Ring to Frodo.

No. Orcs patrol the eastern shore. We must wait for cover of darkness.

We will not abandon Merry and Pippin to torment and death. Not while we have strength left. Leave all that can be spared behind. We travel light. Let's hunt some Orc.

The Lord Of The Rings 2 : The Two Towers

I am Aragorn, son of Arathorn. This is Gimli, son of Gloin, and Legolas of the Woodland Realm. We are friends of Rohan, and of Theoden, your King.

It is an army bred for a single purpose: to destroy the world of men. They will be here by nightfall.

He's not alone. Sam went with him.

Show them no mercy... for you shall receive none!

Open war is upon you whether you would risk it or not.

We are no spies. We track a party of Uruk-Hai, Westward across the plain. They have taken two of our friends captive.

For Rohan. For your people.

They do not come to destroy Rohan's crops or villages. They come to destroy its people. Down to the last child.

You are a daughter of kings, a shield maiden of Rohan. I do not think that will be your fate.

My Lady, there may come a time for valor without renown. Who then will your people look to in the last defense?

In one thing you haven't changed, my friend - you still speak in riddles.

The Lord Of The Rings 3 : The Return Of The King

I do not fear death.

I summon you to fulfill your oath.

Fight for us... and regain your honor.

Behold! The sword of Elendil!

Long have you hunted me, long have I eluded you. No more. Behold! The Sword of Elendil!

Hold your ground, hold your ground! Sons of Gondor, of Rohan, my brothers! I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of woes and shattered shields, when the age of men comes crashing down! But it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good Earth, I bid you *stand, Men of the West!*

We have time. Every day Frodo moves closer to Mordor.

Let the Lord of the Black Land come forth! Let justice be done upon him!

No. There is still hope for Frodo. He needs time... and safe passage across the plains of Gorgoroth. We can give him that.

Not for ourselves. But we can give Frodo his chance if we keep Sauron's Eye fixed upon us. Keep him blind to all else that moves.

Sauron will not have forgotten the sword of Elendil. The blade that was broken shall return to Minas Tirith.

It is but a shadow and a thought that you love. I cannot give you what you seek.

The Beacons of Minas Tirith! The Beacons are lit! Gondor calls for aid.

I have wished you joy since first I saw you.

This day does not belong to one man but to all. Let us together rebuild this world that we may share in the days of peace.

Frodo Quotes From LOTR, A Sequel To the Movie : The Hobbit

“No taste of food, no feel of water, no sound of wind, no memory of tree or grass or flower, no image of moon or star are left to me. I am naked in the dark, Sam, and there is no veil between me and the wheel of fire. I begin to see it even with my waking eyes, and all else fades.”
-Frodo

Frodo: Mordor. I hope the others find a safer route.
Sam: Strider will look after them.
Frodo: I don’t suppose we’ll ever see them again.
Sam: We may yet, Mr. Frodo. We may.

Boromir: I know why you seek solitude. You suffer; I see it day by day. You sure you do not suffer needlessly? There are other ways, Frodo, other paths that we might take.
Frodo: I know what you would say. And it would seem like wisdom but for the warning in my heart.

If you took this thing on yourself, unwilling, at others' asking, then you have pity and honour from me. And I marvel at you: to keep it hid and not to use it. You are a new people and a new world to me. Are all your kin of like sort? Your land must be a realm of peace and content, and there must gardners be in high hounour.”
-Frodo

Frodo: It’s a pity Bilbo didn’t kill him when he had the chance!
Gandalf: Pity? It was pity that stayed Bilbo’s hand. Many that live deserve death, and some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them, Frodo?

“And the ship went out into the High Sea and passed into the West, until at last on a night of rain Frodo smelled a sweet fragrance on the air and heard the sound of singing that came over the water. And then it seemed to him that as in his dream in the house of Bombadil, the grey rain-curtain turned all to silver glass and was rolled back, and he beheld white shores and beyond them a far green country under a swift sunrise.”
-Frodo

“I will take the ring to Mordor, though I do not know the way.”
-Frodo

Frodo: Go back, Sam! I’m going to Mordor alone.
Sam: Of course you are, and I’m coming with you!

“Frodo: I can't do this, Sam.
Sam: I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.
Frodo: What are we holding onto, Sam?
Sam: That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo... and it's worth fighting for.”

“I am glad you are here with me. Here at the end of all things, Sam.”
-Frodo

Merry: [to Frodo] How do we know this Strider is a friend of Gandalf?
Frodo: I think a servant of the Enemy would look fairer and feel fouler.

Frodo: I miss the Shire. I spent all my childhood pretending I was off somewhere else … off with you on one of your adventures! My own adventure turned out to be quite different. I'm not like you, Bilbo.

Frodo: It’s a riddle. Speak "friend" and enter. What’s the Elvish word for friend?

Gandalf Quotes From LOTR, A Sequel To the Movie : The Hobbit

Three hundred lives of men I have walked this earth and now I have no time.
-Gandalf

There is no way out of that ravine, Theoden is walking into a trap.
-Gandalf

It is a burden he should never have had to bear. We can ask no more of Frodo.
-Gandalf

There is one other who knew Bilbo had the Ring. I looked everywhere for the creature Gollum, but the enemy found him first. I don't know how long they tortured him, but through the endless screams and inane babble, they discerned two words
-Gandalf

No, Frodo. You cannot offer me this ring!
-Gandalf

In the common tongue it reads One Ring to Rule Them All. One Ring to Find Them. One Ring to Bring Them All and In The Darkness Bind Them.
-Gandalf

His treachery runs deeper than you know. By foul craft, Saruman has crossed Orcs with goblin men. He's breeding an army in the caverns of Isengard. An army that can move in sunlight and cover great distance at speed. Saruman is coming for the Ring.
-Gandalf

Fool of a Took. Throw yourself in next time, and rid us of your stupidity.
-Gandalf

They have taken the bridge and the second hall. We have barred the gates but cannot hold them for long. The ground shakes, drums... drums in the deep. We cannot get out. A shadow lurks in the dark. We can not get out... they are coming!
-Gandalf

Don't... tempt me Frodo! I dare not take it. Not even to keep it safe. Understand, Frodo. I would use this ring from a desire to do good... But through me, it would wield a power too great and terrible to imagine.
-Gandalf

Be on your guard. There are older and fouler things than Orcs in the deep places of the world.
-Gandalf

The fate of the world will now be decided.
-Gandalf

Lead them on, Aragorn. The bridge is near. Do as I say! Swords are no more use here!
-Gandalf

You cannot pass! I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the Flame of Anor. The dark fire will not avail you, Flame of Udun! Go back to the shadow. You shall not pass!
-Gandalf

The Hobbit Quotes From The Book : Chapter I: An Unexpected Party

A book by J.R.R. Tolkien : The Hobbit

In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.

"Good morning!" said Bilbo, and he meant it. The sun was shining, and the grass was very green. But Gandalf looked at him from under long bushy eyebrows that stuck out farther than the brim of his shady hat.

"What do you mean?" he said. "Do you wish me a good morning, or mean that it is a good morning whether I want it or not; or that you feel good this morning; or that it is a morning to be good on?"

"All of them at once," said Bilbo.
"I am looking for someone to share in an adventure that I am arranging, and it's very difficult to find anyone."

"I should think so — in these parts! We are plain quiet folk and have no use for adventures. Nasty disturbing uncomfortable things! Make you late for dinner!"

"To say that Bilbo's breath was taken away is no description at all. There are no words left to express his staggerment, since Men changed the language that they learned of elves in the days when all the world was wonderful."

"Chip the glasses and crack the plates! / Blunt the knives and bend the forks! / That's what Bilbo Baggins hates."

Far over the misty mountains cold
To dungeons deep and caverns old
We must away ere break of day
To seek the pale enchanted gold.

"Far over the misty mountains cold / To dungeons deep and caverns old / We must away ere break of day / To seek the pale enchanted gold."

As they sang the hobbit felt the love of beautiful things made by hands and by cunning and by magic moving through him, a fierce and a jealous love, the desire of the hearts of dwarves.
The stars were out in a dark sky above the trees. He thought of the jewels of the dwarves shining in dark caverns. Suddenly in the wood beyond The Water a flame leapt up - probably somebody lighting a wood-fire - and he thought of plundering dragons settling on his quiet Hill and kindling it all to flames. He shuddered; and very quickly he was plain Mr Baggins of Bag-End, Under-Hill, again.

"I should like to know about risks, out-of-pocket expenses, time required and remuneration, and so forth" - by which he meant: "What am I going to get out of it? and am I going to come back alive?"

"'Never laugh at live dragons, Bilbo you fool!' he said to himself, and it became a favorite saying of his later, and passed into a proverb."

Old Took's great-grand-uncle Bullroarer...was so huge (for a hobbit) that he could ride a horse. He charged the ranks of the goblins of Mount Gram in the Battle of The Green Fields, and knocked their king Golfimbul's head clean off with a wooden club. It sailed a hundred yards through the air and went down a rabbit hole, and in this way the battle was won, and the game of Golf invented at the same moment.

"Chip the glasses and crack the plates! / Blunt the knives and bend the forks! / That's what Bilbo Baggins hates."
